The author is trying to world build too quickly without properly developing reader attachment to any set of characters or activities. The MC is also now relegated to the sidelines as a minor character.
It would have been much more satisfying to read a slow buildup of the MC to getting involved...
@marcyvq: When Yakou asked Baku what he was after, in trying to surpass the leader, back in the beginning of the manga, Baku replied, "Hmmm, maybe something like world peace?" Perhaps this is him trying to actually act on that seemingly-whimsical answer.
@marcyvq: Yeah, that is a stopwatch and Yakou has been using it to time how many seconds pass once the handkerchief hits the ground until the Checker turns his head.
@marcyvq: Yakou said during the beginning of the gamble that he would try reviving the person who is in the "near-death" state, but not indefinitely. Rather he would only spend a limited time (15 chest compressions, which he said would take ~10 seconds) before stopping. Check out chapter 492...
Holy shit. Look at page 6. The line "No one can experience the same time as others." takes on a double-meaning given this twist:
Meaning #1: No one lives completely the same life as someone else.
(Foreshadowing) Meaning #2: No one experiences the passing of time the same as another. Usogui...
@Marcyvq: I was thinking the same. Some possibilities:
1) He's testing to see if there's a way to drop it without making a sound (I know it was already established that it doesn't make a sound ... but maybe he's testing something)
2) He's dropping it earlier before the minute begins just to...
It's incredible the weight that dropping handkerchiefs have in Kakerou. The final battle of this manga will be decided by a death game that involves two people dropping a handkerchief.
@troita: I think they may delve deeper into Yakou's backstory next volume, allowing his character to be fleshed out more fully. I checked the volume covers and it seems plausible that the next volume will focus on Yakou.
@Rhinoceros Based on the panels in this chapter, I think Kadokura is encountering some mental issues or memory issues. He suddenly grabbed his head and it looks like something happened to his vision.
Given the pairings, it looks like Taka will be fighting / negotiating with the former head of...
Just a thought: I noticed that Baku asked Souichi to press "start" on the timer rather than pressing it himself. We also got a closeup panel of the timer as it was pressed.
Then we saw Souichi throw the stopwatch back to Baku, and it read as 9 seconds in his hands before Baku crushed it...
Oh shit, this chapter also explains why Lalo was in Japan coincidentally in the first place when Souichi called him -- he was there to pick up Billy's body and turn it into diamonds.
This is so hype. I wonder if there's another round of crazy mindgames and fighting left between the two of...
