Ai never saw Hina as a friend, at least before the mindbreak. Frankly, I don't think Ai ever saw Hina as an equal human being.
Not even close. Hina's current abuse is more obvious and physical . But if you think Ai's treatment of Hina was any "better" then you're not really paying...
I don't think the animals not existing is the problem. The author has been twisting and stretching animal "facts" so hard since the beginning, they might as well all be entirely fictional.
The real problem is that the story is just getting boring, simple as.

lol its funny that guy is always brought up as a scapegoat when he was actually completely open about his setup right from the start and the supposed 'glitch' is just him purposely showing the viewers how it works
