Many of Ryouma's deals are stupid, but the manga makes this seem worse than it is. Ryouma is actually asking them to trasmit to the queen his own reports about himself, instead of spying, and holding the crappy noble from his balls through the salt mine.

There was no story advancement but lots of character building, that's clearly what we need to insert new characters into the story an it seems the author really is in a hurry to use these characters freely in the main storyline. Very much appreciated.
