let me ask, how could someone escape from there and tell the nun that the rest were killed(the part that none came back would have been good enough)? it's probably authors brain fart or this was make on purpose to lure fate in.

@Lomeno simply an intelligent person born in poor family with cynicism tendency. Knows that life is full of shit and don't have a choice, but live paycheck to paycheck because he can't afford university to get better job(or completed a degree with huge debs for it and still can't get well paid...
