This feels like solo level. Gunna grab some healing item from a dungeon to heal mom. I normally don't mind the similarities between these stories, no more then I mind a fantasy story using elves/dwarves, but this is a little much.

@Mrina You give luck to much credit. If you have the skill you can always go for safe hands and pretty consistently win. That being said playing for money is probably hella stressful and you'd never be on your A game. Plus not going for big hands is super boring and just not fun to play against.
