@Amylase especially in a manga that started in the early 00s. There's a few manga that explore gender and gender identity around now, but most were released in the past 5 years at best

From here on out, either Asuka heals and moves on, rather the same way Kei had to knowing Mayu and him won't be a thing, or this shakeup in Kei and Asuka's dynamic causes him to look at her in another light. ...or things can just be REALLY awkward for 30 pages or so
