It's an interesting idea, but the author is throwing so much worldbuilding at me that my eyes are glazing over. I know more than I really want to know about the "steps" and shit, but I feel like I know nothing about the lead character.

This reminds me of Fuuka's death in Fuuka. Like there was some kind of mistake and we accidently killed someone off, but it was even stupider in Fuuka because she was the titled character.
Sometimes I get concerned about the way homosexuality is depicted in anime. When I was younger it seemed progressive, but that was 20 years ago and now it seems cringy and outdated. Though using Shiro as a literal shield was pretty funny.
