@Malikoman @Cencourang Well, I can't say I agree with your interpretations, but I guess we'll see soon. Personally I think he did the honorable thing, to admit to his friend that he had unrequited feelings does not equate to him saying he wanted to steal her away at all.

Personally, I suspect the God and his Miko are just protecting her in return for her donation to the prayer box, and once they're done Mieruko isn't in any danger, she just needs to return to the shrine and give more money for their continued protection. Also, here's hoping she really does run...
