This manga seems to have veered off into being overtly rather than just passingly surreal.
Not that that's a problem - it's just a thing I've noticed over the past few chapters.
That was very well done.
It was pretty much a given that someone connected to the "secret base" was going to crop up in the story, and likely in her class (though I expected Tecchan instead of Ooya), but the way it was handled was very interesting and unusual and really added to the odd sort of...
This is oddly soothing. It appears that her life is sort of hard and strange, but she's so calm and optimistic and just takes things as they come and keeps smiling. It's very warm and pleasant but also interesting and strange, and I like that contrast.
This gets better with every chapter.
It's really brilliantly designed. Every chapter fills in some gaps in the story, but with every gap that's filled in, a new layer of mystery opens up. There's so much going on here, and the more I see, the more I want to see.
At this point, this chapter is exactly what I want to see in this manga - as much Asumi as possible and as little Hayamine as possible. In fact, Hayamine could be written out entirely and that'd be just fine.
An Abe Youichi I haven't read yet! I'm already excited.
Edit to add: This is a good one. It's as surreal as I'd expect, but with a bit less darkness and a bit more goofiness than most of his works. I like it a lot.
First - I was waiting for 8888's version of the chapter before I read it, and was sort of concerned about how this was going to play out (just because scanlator drama is a thing), so it's really nice to see this chapter and the way it was all handled.
Then, this increasingly fascinating...
Ah - that was an awesome chapter.
If it was just hiro flexing his amazing skill, that'd be enough by itself, but there's so much more to it. Look at all the character development in this chapter alone.
Such a great manga.
"Is this how outside humans look?"
There are some intriguing mysteries in this manga - some depths underneath the fluff that are slowly being revealed.
I like it.
First it was all sweet and adorable and dad being a great guy and that would've been enough for me by itself. But then holy shit - mom is probably the hottest woman I've ever seen hiro draw.
This manga never fails to satisfy.
