@monoreposo magic in this world can only affect that which it it was designed to affect. That's why you need a very specific drawing to make magic. Circles made to affect clothes can't ever affect other objects, to do that it would require a different magic circle.

@Shiden they actually aren't. You can unsheathe and cut in one move with a longsword as well. THe only difference is that a katana can do it faster because it's curvature helps it slide across the scabbard. But it is very possible to execute an Iai strike with a longsword.
