It's possible to find the other chapters in poor quality elsewhere, so you can get up to date with it. And the story is worth reading -- a lot of clichés, but well-told and amusing.

This episode is quite simply one of the finest pieces of storytelling -- it's a fantastic roller-coaster ride, from start to finish. I just love it to bits!

A note in response to the translator's concerns, as expressed in the translation noteon page 19: The two raw text fragments do indeed use a Japanese idiom, "to brush away sparks", that means "to take care of threats". Page 3: 自分にかかった火の粉は自分で払えと… [jibun ni kakatta hinoko wa jibun de harae to...]...

I'm wondering how the story is going to deal with the fact that Japan is in no way self-sufficient in fossil fuels, metals, and a number of other materials that are continually required to maintain a 21st century civilisation (let alone keep ships and airplanes operating for national defence).
