It's hard to feel sorry for a character that has had zero redeeming qualities for this entire series. Ako's only personality traits are being angry all the time and being obsessed with Mao.
There's a lot of gut reactions to the NEET villain and his group of maladjusted losers, but I think that's the point. Same as the Manager who believed he was King Shit of Fuck Mountain. Some people, when put into extreme situations, become better people and live up to their potential, like...
The art is a little wonky, like the author doesn't quite know how to pose the characters or work with perspective. The writing is about the same. The pacing is off and the characters are really flat. Whole thing feels like the author couldn't come up with a decent story or a compelling...
At the very least, this is an opportunity to redeem how bad this arc has been, but I feel like we could have gotten one or two chapters of a truncated "bad dream" that ends with Rebecca jumping back at the moment of Shiki's death, instead of wasting so much of our time with so much...
The most insulting thing about this is just how many things were stacked against Shiki staying dead, and yet Mashima still had the nerve to waste the audience's time overplaying this sap about how sad it is that Shiki is dead and how we're all supposed to be so shocked and still in disbelief. We...

An asspull in a story is an asspull because it is unearned and contrived, as much of this series has been with numerous major accomplishments and being dropped into the MC's lap unceremoniously. You may as well be arguing that we shouldn't even read stories because none of it is real...
This comes off as Mashima getting desperate because people are dropping this series due to its contrived writing. Make things edgy and desperate for a couple chapters so it seems triumphant when an asspull win is handed to the heroes.
It's not particularly easy to illustrate his style of fighting without having to do a Murata-esque frame-by-frame 40 page chapter, I suppose. Still, this is pretty typical stuff for Baki. Not being able to marathon through these kinds of scenes makes them feel really wasteful.
