@n0rthernlying I think you're forgetting something. I suggest reading the start of Ch. 35 - No Peace of Mind again when he speaks to Marie. And immediately afterwards when he leaves Marie and starts to talk to Kazura, you can see the contrast between how he treats people of different status...
