After reading a few chapters of the novel it's hard to not realize how much of the characters thought process, motivations and even dialogs are being left out.

It feels like the author pulls 90% of the development out of his ass. Like why is he able to make copies of himself, fly, use surveillance and many more with barrier magic?

@Aran1 I think that the dragon was the backup plan. The demand for the birds was unreasonable so they had to come up with something else to offer in case they don't manage to catch the birds. The dragon is hard to hunt in its own way
