I like how MC is clever enough to use illusion magic to fool the vampires into giving them more information. Sure MC is wildly OP but there is a lot of world building here.
It's surprising how well everything goes together in this series. It doesn't seem like a story that would be well written but it is and it's refreshing to read. It doesn't go on forever or have filler arcs.

@ahpathy I agree. There is nuance to their relationship. It isn't a matter of parents being awful and doing awful things but parents wanting the best, trying, and not getting what they wanted. That's a more complicated picture than just awful people.
