It seems like the only people in this story who are being manipulated are people who are religious. I wonder if there is any sub text the author is putting in this story, like how it seemed the priest from last time seemed to be loosely based on the catholic church.

the only thing I can think of that would make sense for guns to work when magic cannot is that it uses the magic it is attacked with to regenerate itself, but bullets don't have magic. This is just a guess since while I have read it I completely forgot.
