I think the implication is that knocking over ones in the front made it harder for the ones behind it to push forward, since they were taking steps that were very close to the ground (so can they just step over each other? They're pretty brainless in this state, right?).

Yeah I maintain that it doesn't make sense for this Y to be called "fake". Knowing about how Bear was in his youth is proof enough for me. Y can have multiple bodies, that doesn't sound unreasonable.
