Just imagine every other manga working the same as this one. Violate a famous monster, get anthropomorphed party member, get a backstory for an otherwise pretty bland character and ruin the scene, because you can't escape the trope-yness of your own written characters.
Don't know about the trope that military food is supposed to be bad. Never had a problem with it except for the quality of bread, but everything else decent to good.
I only needed to hear the "[...] they just had to get caught" part of the prince's speech and I instantly knew, that he has more from the queen dowager in him than from his father.
The thing about consistency is to always draw the black glove except when he deliberately takes it off and this chapter isn't consistent. He got a bare right arm/hand in several panels after he got beheaded.
