The last name I'm not sure, but the first I think it's because "Amir" is a masculine name in the language this is settled in, and in many other languages as well. "Amira" is the feminine counterpart.

It depends much on personal preferences. I, for example, won't like much if it's unecessary drama. I will like it if the payoff is good enough tho.
