To be fair, this is the first monster that came after her eye since the first day of school. Asahi's been at Kamio for at least 4-5 months by estimation using the previous mention of rainy season. That and the majority of monsters she has encountered weren't even targeting her eye.

I'm not really sure about the brother thing with the current context, the term used was aniki so it's either elder brother or referring to a superior. I'm guessing we'll learn about the mother's left eye soon though.

This manga was published in a shōnen magazine; I suppose it feels like a shōjo because the author is a woman. She's the author for Kujira no Ko as well and yeah she went the full shōjo direction.
