I think the point is that hitogami specifically manipulates Rudy so that he misses the connection here with Roxy. There's no way he would normally go wandering off in the back alleys by himself, so by doing so, Rudy thinks he gains with that magic eye, but he also misses the critical connection...

I've read the WN and I'm also super lost. It's amazing how the artist can draw all this and make no sense at all from a plot perspective. Need a supplementary book to understand the story rofl

At this point, I can't tell if the translation is/was bad because the source material made little sense to begin with. The manga is so random. Good work.
