Tewi is one of my favourites and her portrayal here certainly didn't disappoint. Azuma did an amazing job of making her seemingly cute, but also shady as fuck.
This chapter also has some really dark and disturbing parts when you think about it. Like Kasen said, Tewi is deliberately selling her...
Tiny hats and hugging mom aside, I no longer trust Sir Konrad. Asking Leslie to grant him a favour someday and not saying what it is is really ominous.
Kasen's pretty cold in this chapter, burning down someones house and killing the lightning lizard without hesitation. It's cool that western Dragons exist in Touhou though!
Sanae's a fun character but she hasn't been showing up that much lately so it's always nice to see her in older stuff like this.
Also, Shinmyoumaru! I know I rag on the cutesy magical fairyland interpretation of Gensokyo all the time but Shinmyoumaru is actually canonically an adorable little...
Take note fan artists, Momiji doesn't have dog ears.
Speaking of fan art, I'm pretty sure page 27 is one of the only canon examples of Sakuya and Remillia bullying Meiling, despite what many of the so-called fans would have you believe.
It's funny and interesting that the Hakurei shrine maidens have always kinda sucked at actually running the shrine.
Also that afterword really goes to show that the rumors that ZUN just lets the artist do whatever they want for the official manga are a load of crap. The only things we know...
Poor Hobgoblins...
It's always nice to see non-youkai monsters in Touhou, it really stirs the imagination on what happens to the monsters who aren't Japanese and didn't immigrate to Gensokyo. Could there be other fantastic nature preserves in other countries? Probably not, but it's fun to...
Weird seing it translated as Niang-Niang Seiga and Xuanwu's Ravine when the commonly accepted modern translations are Kaku Seiga and Genbu's ravine.
I believe Niang-Niang is if you read the Kanji in Seiga's name in Chinese, and Xuanwu is the Chinese name for the mythological being the ravine is...
One of my favourite chapters.
Not only does it feature two of my favourite characters, Kyouko and Suika, but it reminds the audience that despite the modern yokai of Gensokyo all looking like cute girls, the current state of Gensokyo's society could prove disastrous because yokai are...
