What Marin feels for Violette does seem to be partly maternal partly romantic. So there is an undercurrent of unrequited or impossible love. It's more obvious in the novel
I love the choice of when the story begins, because who we root for as ML would be so different if the manhwa began when vampire and Ellen met. I just love how the author chooses to reveal information a little at a time and manipulate our perceptions
I would be pissed if the wife of my student murdered me in a hit-and-run accident after all she's done for him and by extension his family. The only time in one of these stories that I'm glad the mother is dead
