I kinda get a feeling Carol might be a "savant". Most of the time she's very dumb, like autistic/intellectual disability levels. But sometimes you get glimpses of pure brilliance from her, like her intuitive grasp of math or being able to outwit Misuzu.

I kinda have an impression she works in science/research and is highly regarded and valued in her field. That would fit with her being clumsy/awkward(a common stereotype about geniuses) and would explain her being able to take such a long leave on a whim without getting fired.

@MACZ2021 the manga moved to a different magazine. That was the reason for the numbering reset, so it stays that way. I think the prequel/spinoff arc was partly done to attract the readers of that magazine who weren't familiar with this manga before.
