Wazukyan's first making of the village was a stop gap to save everyone. But since then he's been waiting "for people to keep challenging the Abyss longing for that feeling of Homesickness" (From chapter 51).
He's dissatisfied that HE can't keep exploring the Golden City and is trapped...
The fact that it wasn't axed alongside the magazine, along with accounts from the author, means that I'm pretty sure he got to tell most of the story he wanted. Though perhaps not at the length he wanted.
There's something so genuine about the "kids being kids" series. Colors, Yotsubato, Non non Biyori to a certain extent. Sad to see it end, but honestly we all know the Colors will never really stop playing.

It wasn't even a pun, just a callback to Yotsuba's drawing last chapter of Fuuka with grape ice cream next to grass. The joke here being Fuuka is out of the loop as Yotsuba and Koiwai describe her as "going with the grass."

Cockroaches are commonly referred to as such in Anime and Manga as characters don't want to say their full name. It's a pretty common trope. G is short for Gokiburi the Japanese name for cockroaches.
