Having seen the anime and caught up with what's here, I can guess the ending.
Though I can only talk about the anime I have to say I loved the ending because

the romance was only ever really a catalyst for the two of them to realise themselves. Though they (mostly akira) was at risk...
"Raiha, don't mind me I'm just hiding in the cupboard because it's comfy! What's for dinner tonight? Wow sounds great, I'll be right here for the forseeable future so just tell me when it's done."
I would find the premise alot more problematic if they actually crossed the line in their relationship. The whole idea is exploring a taboo relationship with limitations that slow progress, and seeing how the characters chafe at those restrictions while still staying dedicated to one another...
