It's from the episode entitled, "The Curse of the Claw", of the British comedy series, "Ripping Yarns". Which could be described as Monty Python style parody/absurdist humour. Need some familiarity with British culture to get all the jokes.
So Calvin was a woman. What a rippin' yarn! "That night we discovered that Russell had been wrong. He was a woman after all. It was the mistake anybody could have made in the society in which we'd been brought up. We discovered that most of the rest of the crew were women as well..."
On the one hand, you have a pathetic, craven MC with penis for brains. On the other, you have some some beautifully drawn girls. At least Nisekoi was occasionally funny.
Well, an obvious one is Chiisakobee. Long hair and huge beard. I wonder if there's ever been a manga with an MC who has excessive body hair. Guarantee that would turn off half the potential audience.
Looking for a manga with a truly unattractive male lead. So not a tall athletic guy with a fierce face as in Angel Densetsu, or a big burly guy as in Ore Monogatari. Their raw size would at least get their feet in the door when it comes to the opposite sex, and then into the room when it comes...
When I once heard that line directed at me -- "You're a good person, I'm not good enough for you." -- I just assumed she wasn't attracted to me. It's just a silly lie told to avoid hurting people's feelings. Probably the mangaka herself has used it before.
