@jokerxhisoka That's what I'm saying. It's not bad writing because he was acting, it's bad writing because he told us he won't trust any humans in the same chapter. For a cliffhanger to work you need to have some tension and there is even less here than there normally would be.

We all know that the end-of-chapter cliffhanger which tries to build tension by pretending that the MC has been betrayed and killed doesn't really work, but it's so much worse when it happens in the same chapter in which the MC tells us quite clearly that he no longer trusts any humans.
