One of the things I like about this manga is how the protagonist is kind of edgy and anti-social, but the author frames it as being sort of a problem, rather than being 'cool' like most authors would.
Does anyone really expect Torigoe to get anywhere with this? I wonder if the only reason she's in the story is to contrast the FL's success with a tragedy.
It really is tragic to be betrayed like that, and it definitely deserves better than being called a monster. But... taking it out on people other than the one who wronged you is still an evil move.
@thehypesreal
The dispute has already been going on for months, and they've already sparred verbally multiple times. At some point one just has to realize they're throwing good intentions after bad.

My personal experience tells me that it is still better to just let it go. Constantly...

Sometimes friends become abusive and stop being friends. (Same with lovers/spouses) The only advice I can give in those cases, from personal experience, is to get out before it gets worse. There are other people in the world, and one doesn't need to let the sunk cost fallacy dictate...
"I need to... have a proper talk with Shiho." What? No, you don't! She's been awful to you. You should not engage her at all. What are you doing? Stahp!
This is like saying, "If someone trolls you on the internet, you should feel responsible for talking sense into them." Totally bogus.
Dang... I swear, being a servant in a noble house is the most dangerous profession in these types of manga. Nobles are always killing them off, left and right.
I see a lot of comparisons to Piggy Duke. Although from what I can tell so far, the supporting cast is very different, and the MC himself has a clear goal. (The supporting cast in Piggy Duke was rather passive, but everyone here seems to be actively driving the story.)
Edit:
After looking...
This may be the first chapter where I'm completely at a loss to understand what is going on. I get that there's high society drama happening, but I can't figure out what or why.
Well, Emperor. You've learned that not only can she write, she can write poetry. Bet you probably feel like an idiot for not trying let her communicate through writing when you were awake and badgering her with questions.
@atheleys
I second that. There was a lot of stuff going on, so it feels rushed in the webcomic version. There's so much focus on Navier and Heinley, that Everly almost feels like an afterthought. In the novel, her despair was quite vivid.
@ActiveInternetSandwich
You make a good point. If this was all part of the queen dowager's plan, they probably at least had permission from the hostess of the ball. It's been a little while since I had to study up on this stuff, so I've forgotten some of the little details.
Still, I'm...
I'm all for shipping characters, but um... consent please?
Traditionally in the Victorian era that these things seem to be modeled after, you didn't dance with the same man more than twice unless you were engaged, and unmarried women did not dance the waltz. Even as late as the mid 18th...
@FeBriz
Yeah, his motivations seem rather unorthodox, so it's hard to say what he's really aiming for in the end. But having her experience a variety of different things isn't so bad.

There's definitely a limit to how far one can go in diagnosing a fictional character's fictional...
