Your parents can be your friends too, it's just tricky, like Revvex said. It's super mature of Kobayashi to realize she wouldn't make a great parent, so credits to her.
I think Cool introduced enough ancillary elements earlier in the manga to make this genre transition less bumpy/abrupt than it could have been otherwise.
The manga really did a good job of fleshing out Megumi more. Even if it's just a tiny bit, it definitely went a long way towards helping me understand her viewpoint better. Goes to show that doing multiple viewpoints of everyone and not just Kimari is a good way to tackle this adaptation.

I'm starting to like this adaptation more than I thought I would at the start. A nice take, though it feels almost as long-winded as the novels themselves.
Honestly, an entire series with the Nagatoro of the first two chapters would most likely be unsustainable. Maybe it could have stayed in that form for more than two chapters, but development has to happen eventually, and it's done well in that department.
