@krippr Philosophy and Ethics are inherently pretentious. You could make an argument that the manga relies overly on quotes from famous philosophers to make its point, but I think it does a pretty good job given the constraints placed on it both by page length, format, and target demographics...

Personally, I find that the party interactions in this are several steps above the average fantasy series, and that raises my enjoyment of it considerably.

The only thing preventing this from being a truly top-tier series is the incredibly uneven pacing. I still love it, though.

Even by fantasy standards, Monster Hunter "humans" are absurdly strong and durable. It shouldn't come as a big surprise that one of them would clean up in a more generic fantasy world.
