I read this mangaka's work on Legend of Mana years ago. His art has really improved since then.

Since nobody commented on the carnations, here: I looked up some images, and sure enough, some look just like lettuce.

Nice. I liked it. And for all the drama, it feels believable. Once the two of them stopped running away from themselves and what they wanted, some obstacles vanished. Looking forward to the final, "honeymoon" chapter.

@thecronosone OTOH a crazy Marcille would be more impactful, story-wise, as she's always been the "straight man" of the group.

This first chapter both moves you and gives you no inkling of just what the rest of the manga will be like, besides the obvious emotion of sadness. @Lightbrand I agree. I suppose the exception is if you're unlucky enough to become one of those lonely, unoccupied old folk counting the days until...

@ParanoiaAgent Have a look at the last page. FYI This chapter has been re-translated. EDIT: Chelly, who did the first scanlation, is a Thai speaker. They did us all a service by putting this out in English so it would get attention.

Cooking manga tend to be some of the more wholesome in the medium. This takes it to another level, even touching on socioeconomic realities, to make us feel thankful for what we have. I was expecting him to be sent back to the present day at the end... a nice twist, a happy ending.

LOL Now I understand why it got so many "9" ratings! Great stuff.

Page 17, Panel bottom-right: Laius: "See? Easy squeezy!" I don't know if there was a pun or not in the original Japanese, but ehscans and #EverydayHeroes Scans are on top of their translation game. :-)

Kui Ryoko tops herself yet again! Dungeon Meshi would already make for a good anime, and this chapter in particular is just begging to be animated. Let's just hope it's given sufficient budget, as and when...

My word, Nemu's facial design really underwent a change! Compare this chapter with the first chapter. The art is gorgeous throughout, still.

A fascinating glimpse of the man who drew this manga, and of the people who work in the industry in general.

10/10. An unfinished masterpiece. A masterpiece, nonetheless.
