@xtostos the meta answer is that the plot demands stakes. Arguably, maybe the art teacher recognized her hesitancy and was trying to push her out of her shell. I doubt one failing grade would've set her totally back (C's get degrees), but Chiyo is the type to spiral and avoid.

Sorry. A 32-year-old man spending emotionally charged time with an 18-year-old is creepy. It's always creepy, and when the manga acknowledges it's creepy it's worse, because the author knows it's creepy. But they still decided to write it and champion this type of relationship.
