Morguz doesn't understand the situation, zombies and zombie/ghost slimes are atacking the people so they ask him to save them, but instead he interprets it as to kill Guts and sacrifice Caska.

I haven't read the chapter yet, but I like the title, it makes me think of what the skeleton knight said about the moon, the water and the fish wich is not bound to the shadow of the moon.
Oh hell no, deeming religion more important than spirituality itself is like saying that the church is greater than God, and above it he twists the laws and scriptures to acomodate to his own guilt wich he proyects on others.
So the branding is why he finds monsters left and right in the future or is it that he seeks them? Maybe they are abundant because of the dark age they mentioned.
But he DID regret many times, and he apologized and he felt conflicted by wishing to become king whilst suffering for the loss of his comrades. After all he is still a person.
