I do like how much more serious it treats the story over the main series, without too much sacrifice on the main comedic components of the main series. It will be interesting to read season 2, when the main series goes much more into the serious mood itself.

Just re-read everything - I forgot that Falanus was able to tame beasts - except his definition of 'beasts' include humans. Nanana was not affected thanks to the Null Status Ailments potion, and Falanus was even afraid that his ability would be revealed if Nanana did a Simple Analysis. I guess...

I'm a little surprised that considering the entire situation that she's in, Nanana defected information pretty easily. I suppose part of it might be that she was afraid of mind reading, but it feels that she's defecting for her own reasons instead of being pressured.

And yet another chapter down. From what I understand, Ike tends to pull events and locations from real life anyways. Akayashi are pulled from the generally accepted lore variations of them as well, but drawn in much cuter renditions than most. (IE: really the real definition of 'slice of life')

I agree with @StealthAria - while the chars are handwaving quite a bit, it doesn't necessarily mean we need, or even should take such handwaving without question. Of course, it is also entirely possible that it's purposely trying to pull a leg, so who knows?
