@mootmar the story has shifted so much from Kiyo's daily life as a caterer supporting the maikos to Suu chan's daily life with Kiyo supporting mostly only her.

Kiyo is becoming more like NPC now and Suu-chan is the protagonist.

@Karekon it WAS her mother. It was Feng Shen, having been reduced to low courtesan since she got pregnant and "abandoned" by Rakan, she was infected with syphilis and was left as a living corpse. It's explained in the novel, maybe later it will be explained here too

For some reason, this part was more painful in the novel. But it was still sad. Poor Feng Shen... :(

@Strongstache such as when they went inside magical storybook and the book would grant their wish including curing his problem but they decided to fool around instead, making the book mad. This time too, Free's barrier would make his life much easier, why not keep it up until they can cure him...
