We don't know how much he knew from within the seal, though. For all he knew, there might be super OP people still around, just hiding like he was. Someone sealed him in there, after all. That might still be possible.
This feels more like the demon counter-detecting that human...
Walter is not quite so bad anymore. He still sucks though.
I'm kinda surprised it was Rob that reached for the Duke, not Sharon. Also, is Philip the Duke? Or did I forget something?
There's no need to explain the toxicity any further, I don't know what the author is thinking. She's using him as a meatshield, while spouting BS about him giving up. So what? We already knew she's trash.
@Aichan
That's the point. He has no legitimacy. Unless the empire itself acknowledges him, or he utterly defeats them (history is written by the victor), any attack on the empire is unlawful. The empire just has to not accept any declaration. If MC has other allies, they might legitimize him in...
@Elmithian
That may be. I don't actually know. It doesn't change the fact about MC now though. He unlawfully declared himself monarch, all the empire has to do is not acknowledge him and any action he takes as monarch is unlawful.
@Aichan
That whole argument is invalid, since his very existence is unlawful. He declared himself monarch without support. By the laws of any existing country nearby, he is very likely a rebel. If he attacks the empire, at any point, it will be unlawful by the laws of the empire. With enough...
@Sonicdude8
That's the general gist, but more like he actually wanted to be a Spellsword but got stuck as an Enchanter.
It's all mages. He wanted close combat, but got crafting.
@flannan
Thanks for admitting fault with that edit. Seeing as the staff was never designed for melee, it doesn't need to be anything but a medium for magic. It should be, I agree. But it isn't.
Looking at the staff, it has about the same length as a long sword. Maybe a bit more. It's thin...
@theldras
Not really, I've played with plenty of sticks with almost that exact shape, and they were feather-weight. Considering that enchantment does seem to exist (MC's sword), it's also possible that it's magically lighter. Then there's the fact that it isn't meant for bludgeoning, coupled...
@theldras
The staff is wooden. It would have to be some serious magic wood to beat a steel/iron sword in weight.
But she really should have a dagger or something, I agree. Last line of self-defense, and practical for other uses too!
