@Add1152000 Wrong kind of sage. Fantasy RPG sages aren't wise, they're masters of all magic types. Wisdom is optional (unless it's D&D).

@0TheWatcher0 - In the west a sage is a wise man. In Japan (or Japanese rpgs & fantasy) a sage is just someone capable of using all the magic. Has nothing to do with wisdom.

@Animeaddiction It's way older than that. It's in the Ultima games, which I think were popular in Japan, though not as popular as Wizardry. I *think* Wizardry had a similar system, but it's been so long I forget. And a lot of Japanese Western style fantasy is based off Dungeons & Dragons 1e...
