Itou Junji Kyoufu Manga Collection - Vol. 2 Ch. 5 - Hair

there isn't much here that makes this story uniquely "Tomie", not even the characteristic identity death (the girl taken over seems to act the way she always would have if she were more conventionally attractive). We've also never seen audiovisual hallucinations or superhuman feats of hair...

Itou Junji Kyoufu Manga Collection - Vol. 2 Ch. 2 - Basement

ouch, straight-up identity death is something that tends to be underrepresented in horror. This is a good execution of that premise.

Itou Junji Kyoufu Manga Collection - Vol. 1 Ch. 2 - Photograph

welp, the shambling neck-head zombie definitely makes up for the badly drawn tumor

Itou Junji Kyoufu Manga Collection - Vol. 1 Ch. 1 - Tomie

wow, everybody starts somewhere. A lesson not to judge horror artists/writers too badly if they're just starting out. Shock panel is... ok... and I agree with Meduchi, the characters just act insane, immoral, and murderous for really no reason.

The Shard of Evil - Ch. 8 - Mimikosuru Onna (Whispering Woman)

the ghost is a lot less malicious than expected? I mean, there's the obvious trouble with her more or less hijacking Mayumi's body and actions, but she seems to guide Mayumi to a mostly healthy life minus the revenge killing bit. And especially since the motive is revenge, there's little reason...

New Voices in the Dark - Vol. 1 Ch. 5 - Library of Illusions

I get that it's a psychological horror, but... buddy! Preserving knowledge is a real thing, and it's usually done with microfilm and digital copies!

The Legend of the Kuchisake Onna - The Slit-Mouthed Woman - Vol. 2 Ch. 8 - The Science Room's Baby Pt. 2

So this is what, punishment for not popping out enough babies? Screw that

The Legend of the Kuchisake Onna - The Slit-Mouthed Woman - Vol. 2 Ch. 7 - The Science Room's Baby Pt. 1

clearly the way to solve Japan's declining population growth rates is with teen pregnancy

The Legend of the Kuchisake Onna - The Slit-Mouthed Woman - Vol. 1 Ch. 4 - Makeup

oh hey, it's another one of those "makeup is a form of lying" people.

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 22 Ch. 264

well, it's an ending. A bit "rebuild from the ashes" maybe, but it's fine. I don't like how so many themes got dropped by the end and remain unfinished, from the gender stuff to Internet culture to the humanity of zombies to the nature of survivors. Heck, the manga doesn't even bother explaining...

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 22 Ch. 259

the two middle-schoolers lose their innocence and then their lives. Darn.

Auntie and Tekko are some of the only pure characters, shame they both died.

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 22 Ch. 257

welp, looks like even the narration calls them Oda-san's "sister". Geez. I mean, the character is literally and explicitly trans, no "hey they just like crossdressing we're gonna dance around the issue." It's just incredible that somehow the author got it through his head to write an explicitly...

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 22 Ch. 251

This story includes themes of pluralism and multiplicity (where people have "headmates" or distinct personalities and people who share their body). I'm not sure if the author is aware of it being a theme, if he's aware that's what it's called, or even if he's aware that real, healthy people...

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 22 Ch. 249

ohh man, I can see how they're setting up Hiromi to be the villain ("every companion of Hideo's dies" is a running theme ig) and I don't like how they're basing it in "female jealousy." It's an easy device to fall back on but it just perpetuates stereotyping.

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 21 Ch. 247

ooh, this manga keeps bringing up gender but hasn't actually done too much with it beyond going like "interesting, isn't it?"

    ouch. Don't join cults, kids.

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 21 Ch. 243

yo I really like this explanation, it does tie a lot of plot points together quite nicely (zombies retaining sentience, connected minds, the role of Hiromi, Oda's sibling, etc.). On the other hand, I'm not so sure about the incest; that kinda felt unnecessary and detracts from the whole "the...

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 21 Ch. 239

oh hey, it's the trans character they introduced and then killed off within two scenes. They're only here because we know they're a "combat-type" so that raises the tension, yeah?

    I Am a Hero - Vol. 20 Ch. 236

So this is the second, more contrived explanation for why NEETs are the main group of survivors (the first being the "vectors for infection" thing that got brought up like 100 chapters ago). Give it a moment of thought and yeah, it does mean that most survivors are going to be self-centered...
