    20th Century Boys - Vol. 5 Ch. 53 - Butterfly

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 5 Ch. 50 - Reunion

oof, I always forget just how stereotypical depictions of trans people in manga tend to be. Everyone that isn't a man in a dress or a deluded lesbian ends up getting shunted into the "otokonoko" or "extreme tomboy" categories... welp, at least Kanna is nice to her, though I'm guessing it's more...

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 4 Ch. 40 - Secret Base

well, that was quite the timeskip.

welp, Otcho is gonna die a heroic death.

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 4 Ch. 35 - Connections

Interesting that Otcho's entire life is basically a shounen manga, or at least a shounen manga reader's fantasy.

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 3 Ch. 32 - Man in Bangkok

I'm going to guess that this... is Otcho? Seeing as how he mysteriously disappeared, joined with a group of Tibetan monks, and now we see this Shogun character with apparently intimate knowledge of the happenings of the friend group.

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 3 Ch. 28 - Sadakiyo

I find it pretty unlikely that "Friend" is either Sadakiyo or Otcho, considering that Sadakiyo gets eliminated for the same reason Otcho does: too obvious. If I had to guess, I'd say that it's probably Fukubei, who is being suspiciously helpful. Of course, this is all happening fairly early on...

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 3 Ch. 24 - Showdown

dumbest move he could've made. I swear, does he not know how to blend in? When in Rome, and all that. I guess Kenji wants to be a big damn hero though, sees this as an opportunity to restore his boyhood dreams. We've already established that the Kenji of now isn't the Kenji of so many years ago...

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 2 Ch. 19 - The Man Behind

I can't help but feel that this is inspired in part by the Tokyo subway sarin gas attacks

20th Century Boys - Vol. 2 Ch. 15 - The Time for Human Extinction

No way Otcho is "Friend", for the same reason that the police officer had doom signs written all over him: these things don't get revealed so early into the series, they're still introducing characters for Christ's sake!

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 2 Ch. 14 - Yama-san

Welp, the doom signs were incredibly obvious, but still... what a way to go. All that knowledge lost. This story is really doing the whole Hitchcockian dramatic irony thing, huh.

    20th Century Boys - Vol. 1 Ch. 7 - Softball

I love the fact that Kenji doesn't make it. Well, I would've loved it if he did make it too. I guess the gesture is what matters, the fact that it's eminently relatable, and hits at something uniquely melodramatic about the passage of time.

20th Century Boys - Vol. 1 Ch. 5 - Night of the Science Room

@Cosmak he's drunk by now and his friends have been distracting him, cut him some slack!

20th Century Boys - Vol. 1 Ch. 3 - The Boy Who Bought a Guitar

ah damn. This really hits home for a specific segment of the dispossessed. When you're at that certain level of wealth where you get told that everyone has the opportunity to make it big, and there are just enough people around you who succeed that you think it isn't a lie, but you end up in a...

    Gamurakan - Vol. 1 Ch. 3 - Adagio

I have no idea what is going on, why people are behaving the way they are, or what the decision-making process is looking like. These characters have a completely blue-and-orange interiority. Incomprehensibility does not make for very good horror.

Ito loves the cannibalism thing, and this is an early example of that. Also, I get that it's a psychological horror so their minds are supposed to be bent, but we saw with the teacher in the hospital earlier that even thralls of Tomie can consider the possibility of burning her, so WHY does this...
