@jackmiaw I think that it's just that he got injured very early on in his career so he never had the time to get a good rank, that and most of his strenght coming from experience and skill rather than talent so he may not have been that good in his youth.

I don't think that the mark is becoming less powerful, its effects doesn't automatically make bad girls obey him and Ranna is probably just becoming more proactive in her love for him, all that changed is that she proposed to him and is angry because he risks his life when she could protect him...

@H-san I don't think that it's really anti-welfare, after all she said that everyone live by "sucking the blood of others", whether it be through labor, taxes or crime, in the metaphor he's not really more (or less) of a vampire than the thugs and the wealthy people.
