@cgr: She hasn't done anything to make me like her as a character this chapter, and it looks like she'll fall into the trope of the man-hating lesbian. I don't mind yuri elements in shōnen manga, I just don't like the mangaka being lazy when they write them in.

For what it's worth, I think that nekoguchi is pretty adept at dragging this manga out. There's never progress without filler.

I think it's far more likely that Alice's mother is one of the early victims of the Duke's curse at this point, maybe even the first one.

In a move that surprised no-one, they're introducing the second love rival late into the series. The mangaka was probably running out of ideas, so they decided to throw in a new character to add some tension. 10:1 she won't be fleshed out as a character and will remain an annoying nonentity.
