Its a horror manga btw, a pure horro, old school JP horror. Not as acid as junji ito but it is still scary when I read it decades ago.

Probably in Japanese, what MC said is deliberately vague ( that is how nihongo works, most of the time, only the verbs without the doer exist in a sentence).
Nihongo sentence works on context. So, the girl deliberately understood MC words referring to himself offering to be a husband for her.

Japanese language works with context.
You may heard/read the MC said "imoutou" in raws but depending on the context, it could be him referring to his sister or someone else sister.
If he said "watashi no imouto", that does meant "my little sister". To retain the ambiguity of Japanese language...

I meant, the fact she and other elf girl with her can speak properly, a soldier (which has to know organized formation at least) and know some social manner within hierarchical society, they should know having more knowledge like basic mathematics and reading skills would really help...
