Don't much care for the way the tiles are referred to with little images within the text here. At that small size, it takes longer to squint and recognize them than it does to just read the tile title, and this goes triply for the manzu since their only differentiating feature is the tiny...

I personally found the extended house-rules 8-person match of mahjong in Ten, also by Fukumoto, to be the thing that finally beat the terminology and most of the yaku into my head. It removes a lot of the complexity usually present in the game

That's unfortunate, but I guess there was precedent when Akagi bailed on his match with Ten a few years back
