Yes, I did in fact know all of that. I said he "had a point this time" but that doesn't mean I wholly agree with his opinion.
It's nice that you're passionate about it, though.
I actually like his (and her) character. They don't dress it up and say he isn't a jerk – it's all class and time period stuff. And – most importantly – it's not too contrived. Often, these tropes come hand-in-hand with bad writing.

While you wouldn't have the same response, this character and plenty of real people would.
Not exactly fun reading material, but not stupid.
It's not that unrealistic. People having mental breakdowns act "irrationally", but there is an underlying logic to the way emotions work. Having been in and also witnessed people being under extreme stress, I don't think this is a bad depiction.
This is fiction, so the narrative is more neat and...
