The Villainess Is Retiring - Vol. 1 Ch. 18

That feeling when you learn the reason you were having so much trouble lighting the firewood, is that it was made of diamonds—after you've been burning it for six months.

@Satansslut669: I would not be surprised, I read shoujo more than shounen XD But there's a world of difference, such as I would have difficulty articulating eloquently, between how this couple would be portrayed in a typical or even atypical shoujo manga, and how it is portrayed here—there's...

The Villainess Is Retiring - Vol. 1 Ch. 16

To be fair he is kind of broadly like a traditional fairy: Charming, and incredibly dangerous.

Who marked this as shoujo, I wonder XD I was weirded out by the tone (be it the cadence of the comedy, or how implicitly dismissive it is of the girl's intelligence and how triumphantly it ultimately frames the guy's) until I looked back at MangaUpdates and saw it was totally from shounen...

    Sougo Tairitsu Frustration

Walking that thin line between cutely awkward and awkwardly creepy... I'm not so sure it all landed on the right side of that for me.

The Young Lady I Served Became a Young Master - Ch. 15

Honestly in that situation I would have taken that as "What, you say you're not thinking of marrying, why should I have to either?" in the more general sense. Though, of course, he was indeed flirting.

The Lady and the Beast - Ch. 45

I want her to be like, "Naval combat. I was never very good at it, alas. Which is why we had to stop at just the one continent."

    2 Misfits

...The only thing indicating unambiguously that anything in this is intended to be taken as romantic is the love-umbrella graffiti on the cover. Not that that's fundamentally a bad thing! Just that in terms of tagging, even a "shoujo-ai" tags seems a bit misleading. In recognition of the...

    Love Diver - Vol. 1 Ch. 1

Ah, a kiss out of nowhere! ...Way to turn your nostalgic reunion with your old ex (or whatever) all creepy and skanky. >_>; Though him being unromantically skanky just seems to be the order of the day, I guess, given the next scene after that. And there's going to be a romance in here...

Yokoshima Innocent Days - Ch. 1

@NotYourFuta: That really is that far off, from this, though XD The scenario you're comparing is fundamentally very different in the social rules of men? Being "gross" around each other is A-ok for a good subset of guys (especially of a certain age), but doing sexual things with each other is...

    Taikakusa

...I'm fairly dubious about the description calling it "fairly SFW" when it has sex in. That is... precisely not what "Safe For Work" means. Maybe just a more general, "relatively tame"? XD

My Childhood Friend the Vampire - Ch. 10

@VINT64: I don't mind arguing, so long as I have something to say and so long as it's not in particularly bad faith. Here, I can't imagine going beyond dissecting exactly where and why I was interpreting things differently (which, admittedly, could still take a while)—like, I'm aware that a...

The Villainess Is a Marionette - Vol. 1 Ch. 24

"It followed the exact same steps, so why did the tea I had my servant brew not taste the same as hers? I had my suspicions, but, is it..." My brain filled in the next word as "drugged" and I can't un-think how much more logical sense this conclusion would make and how much funnier this scene...

My Childhood Friend the Vampire - Ch. 10

@danielboredom: I don't know what Fred's reputation is, and I've certainly not read all his(?) comments, but even if I frequently don't agree with him(?), I've actually often found his(?) commentary to be kind of interesting or insightful in its... romance-writing-skeptical point of view? And...

Chi wo Suu no ga Meccha Heta na Kyuuketsuki (Doujin) - Ch. 1

I am made uncomfortable by the experiential knowledge that this is not necessarily meant to be read in a wholesome way, and how utterly horrifying the baby-mode aspect is if that's the case. It could of course also be exactly what it's presenting itself as on the tin. I'm just not sure I want...

My Childhood Friend the Vampire - Ch. 10

@FredFriendly: I dunno about that. Does a romance tag require a romance to come to fruition? Or does the work being in large part about the pursuit of a romance, suffice? Excluding the latter categorically would give some absurd results, I feel. And, I mean, there's obviously courtship going...

    Please Don't Eat Me! - Ch. 5

@comichoarder: A solid third of South Koreans are Christians, too. XD But honestly I feel like it's kind of authentic, more or less. The church in some of the time periods these vaguely allude to being based on, was capable of being very scary, and quite-involved in all sorts of power struggles.
