@daywithoutgames I guess that's the only explanation that makes sense because even Goku was too weak to ever become a super saiyan until he touched foot on planet Namek. There is a strength requirement for the transformation.

@Lithe I think the anime is better in these type of moments, both Goku's first ssj transformation and Gohan's ssj2 transformation happened within a single page, the anime might be longer but a scene like this deserves at least a little more length.
