so the translators finally settled on "banish" and gave an explanation why... I like it, there's no single clean word for breaking off a friendship in English (though I like "shun", honestly, especially given its religious connotations with the Jehovah's Witnesses), but "banish" encapsulates the idea of cutting out a person from a society or relationship quite nicely.
