@AverageP3rson - thin handle probably isn't a problem for a sword made of fantasy materials like mithril, but guard is, indeed, missing. Which is not a problem for Japanese-style fencing, but quite a problem for Western-style fencing.
My guess is, that sword is meant to slay monsters, this way, the adventurer would not really need a guard.
