What I mean is that it seemed like a rushed idea.
It also moves too quickly through said idea. Like they really didn't want to do it, but had to. It may be a space limitation, this is an anthology after all. But it feels like this is a story meant for it's own oneshot/series that got butchered and shoehorned in.

Replying to your statement though, you're not wrong. That's almost entirely the blackmail genre in a nutshell, save a few other scenarios.

I'm no expert in this field of genre... but maybe it's also due to the page limitations too? It might be possible that the publisher only wants xx amount of pages so each author are given different amount that they can draw?
